Grammar

Let's take a look at our learning point from yesterday, how to ask and say that something more is needed using 'anō'.

You walk into the kitchen and say to your nan 'He tī anō māu?' What have you asked her?
  • Some more cookies to go with your tea?
  • Some honey for your tea?
  • Some more tea for you?

Your nan takes a sip of her tea and she screws up her face. You say to her 'He huka anō māu?' What have you asked her?
  • Some more sugar for you?
  • Some cream for you?
  • Did you want a chocolatte instead?

Your nan nods her head for some more sugar and says 'Homai anō he pāreti māku'. What did she say to you?
  • Give me some more porridge please
  • Give my friend a partridge please
  • I want another party please

You then say to your nan 'He parāoa anō māu'? What did you ask?
  • Some brown sugar too?
  • Some more corn for you?
  • Some more bread for you?

Your nan shakes her head and you walk outside to see your mum and aunty. They're peeling kumara. She says to you 'Homai anō he kumara mō taku teina'. What did she say to you?
  • Some more kumara for my sister please
  • Some more kumara for me please
  • Take some kumara inside please

Your aunty gives you a smile and says 'He kawhe anō māku'. What did she say?
  • Do you know how to make a latte?
  • Some more coffee please
  • Another tea please

You go inside to make your aunty her drink to find all your nieces and nephews in the kitchen. They want a snack. You say to them 'He āporo anō mā koutou, tamariki mā?' What did you say to them?
  • The apples are outside, go and get them
  • Do you want some more apples, children?
  • Where are the apples, children?
