Let's practice the kinship terms using the 'a' and 'o' categories, and asking where someone's home is.

'Ko wai ōu mātua?' is the Māori translation for 'Who are your   ?'

'Ko Rāwiri   ko Tama āku irāmutu' is the Māori translation for 'Rāwiri and Tama are my nephews'.

'Ko wai ōu tīpuna?' is the Māori translation for 'Who are   grandparents?'

'Who are your daughters?' is the English translation for 'Ko wai āu   ?'

'Who are her older sisters?' is the English translation for 'Ko wai   tuākana?'

'Kei   ' literally translates to 'where is/are'.

'Where is your home?' is the English translation for 'kei hea   kāinga?'

'Kei hea   kāinga?' is the Māori equivalent of 'Where is his home?'

'Kei   tōna kāinga' is the Māori equivalent of 'His home is in Dunedin'.

'Where is   home?' is the English translation for 'Kei hea tōku kāinga?'
